Maria Blaszkiw
NEW PATTERN COUNSELING - PORTLAND, OREGON
Creativity is universal to all humans, which is why art making can allow us to explore the complexities of life with new possibilities. Art therapy offers you a space to reflect on thinking patterns and develop sustainable skills by engaging the body, mind, and spirit in hands-on self-expressive action.
Maria believes that the human experience is an ongoing practice of encountering pain and exercising love. Hardships of heightened stress, relationship dynamics, and dysregulated emotions can be overwhelming to face alone. Together we can strengthen what already works and develop the self through mindfulness, acceptance, and commitment to one’s values. Within each person exists qualities that are favored and those that we’d rather keep hidden. In the non-judgemental art space, you are free to unleash what feels untamable through a focus of the process over the product.
Maria received her Masters in Art Therapy from Lewis & Clark Graduate School. She is passionate about incorporating ecopsychology techniques into counseling by encouraging connection with the natural world. Maria is experienced working with a variety of people including children and young adults, those with developmental and physical disabilities, the LGBTQ+ population, and those with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and ADHD. If you are at a loss of how to move through this phase of life, Maria offers compassionate but direct communication and feedback.
When Maria isn’t at the office, you may find her immersed in fantasy novels, making a creative mess, jogging through the outdoors, cooking up a storm, or leisurely working on word puzzles.
